Cracker House by eudora

Cracker House

A typical old Florida house, a Cracker house, built in 1910 with porches and windows to provide cross ventilation. This was the home of a poet and author, Laura Riding Jackson, who had lived in Europe and New York but moved to Wabasso, Florida with her husband in 1925 (how did they even find the place?) to raise organic citrus fruit and work on their life's work, a study of language. She lived without electricity until 1989. When I visit a house like this, I realize how spoiled my family and I are! We were without power for 2 days after Hurricane Matthew and complained bitterly.
Looks like it could be a movie set.

Interesting history; how different we are today - the kids go crazy without a mob, when we have a rare power cut we are out of our wits. And I remember my dad when I was a very little boy working at home in the lamp light without a tv and no radio and only one cable radio station.

It's difficult to image how they lived in those days. I see the changes from my childhood in Germany over the 61 years I live here.

Quaint and pretty. Sometimes the lack of electricity is a choice- such as in the Amish culture. It's admirable. And your observation is true- it's very difficult for people to deal with no electricity when everything they do is dependent on it. Nice shot!
