Editing old files: a photo from last November taken near Louvale, Georgia. That particular day, I drove by myself from Columbus, Georgia to Fort Pierce, Florida (about 480 miles) spending several hours wandering back roads in Georgia. Of course, I paid the price (arriving home late) but it was so worth it!
Why are other locales so much more interesting than our own?
Good shot! I think we become too familiar with our own locales and then have to force ourselves to see them from a different perspective. That's not always easy to do.

To answer your question I think they are more interesting because they are less familiar.
