The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I left Baton Rouge 3 years ago and came back last summer. I am so glad to be home, but some of the plans to renovate old buildings are still. . . ongoing. I have posted photos of the Lincoln Hotel before, where black entertainers like Aretha Franklin and James Brown stayed when performing in a racially segregated Baton Rouge. Its history intrigues me because such blatant racism was not publicized during my childhood in New Jersey (although who knows? I grew up in suburbia.) The Lincoln has recently sold (for a reported $400,000!) with plans to renovate it into a boutique hotel. It is near a planned multi-use renovaton, but I won't hold my breath.
An interesting history and a terrific photo. I love the light. It definitely looks like an abandoned area but the sands of time move slowly and apparently change does too.
Sometimes these types of renovations take forever because there are all kinds of regulations to maintain their historic landmark status etc. And sometimes it's due to people not realizing the cost. I do hope they'll finish the project. This piece of history deserves new life.
