Wait. What's a polar vortex? by eudora

Wait. What's a polar vortex?

The white pelicans are back in Baton Rouge! They usually stop here in November or December on the way to a warmer place, but I was surprised they were on their way back up North (they breed in Canada and the northern U.S.) so early. Maybe they'll stay here for a while.

My photos today were awful; this is from November.
A lovely capture

Interesting. It has been unusually cold — bitterly cold — in Virginia this winter. Hope the pelicans are still hanging out down your way!

Love the way the water looks. A nice contrast to the plumage of the pelican.

I was just in town today and saw some Snowdrops pushing up in a garden. That seemed early to me too- but they're just coming up so maybe not. I don't know what to expect weather-wise anymore. We went from single digit temps to 60+ degrees all in one week! No wonder the pelicans are confused! Great shot- ditto to Allison's comment about the water.
