I was attracted to this mural because of the combination of painted and living plants and trees, but the name intrigued me as well. And then there is the lion. . . .
This is probably way more than you want to know. Google helped decipher the symbolism as Rastafarian. The lion is a symbol of Haile Selassie I, the "conquering lion of Judah." The green, gold and red on the lion's banner stand for the vegetation of Jamaica, the wealth of Ethiopia and the hope of freedom and the red blood of those killed in Jamaica. There was an old rumor that reggae singer Bob Marley, a Rastafarian, once had a home in Baton Rouge. Whether that is true or not, this mural may be a tribute to Marley and his music.
