That we see, anyway. We think this young raccoon is one of the litter that we saw frequently last summer. She (my husband has decided it is a female because of her small size) eats the leftover cat food.
According to our pest control service, regulations require residents to trap and euthanize "nuisance" raccoons, although nuisance is not clearly defined. In practice, when that is done, other raccoons quickly fill the gap. So we have agreed that she is not a nuisance, although we sure wish she'd hang out elsewhere.
I guess a nuisance is more like when they get into the garbage and other unwanted places- but "she's" just helping with the clean-up! Her hands look so dainty.
@joysabin Thanks for your comment. The only thing we have figured out do to discourage the raccoon is try not to leave leftover cat food on the deck at night. This does not work too well, as she'll then come during the day.
