On January 1, our cat Elijah slipped out while my son was grilling on the deck. We searched for three days until, hungry, he returned to the deck for dinner. We had even set a humane trap to try to catch him. Our feral cat Evander walked into the trap, ate the bait food and backed out without tripping the door.
@bruni The trap was fine. Evander was either lucky or smart. Other people have told me that some wild animals learn how to avoid getting trapped. Now that I have a trap, I plan to try to catch a tomcat who has been coming around. If I can trap him, I will get him neutered and vaccinated.
We live on a corner of two main roads and regularly have cats dumped near us. So awful for the poor cats. I did trap one once and a friend gave it a wonderful home for a number of years. I think Evander must be a really smart cat.
