The thousand-yard stare by eudora

The thousand-yard stare

Tears came to my eyes when I saw this iconic photo by Don McCullin, “Vietnam [Shell Shocked Man, Hue, Vietnam] 1968." It's part of an exhibition of photographs currently displayed at the New Orleans Museum of Art.

I found a moving interview with the photographer where he mentions "the thousand-yard stare" and talks about how he is haunted by his war images: https://www.cnn.com/2011/10/08/world/europe/don-mccullin-war-photography/index.html
Shows how cruel wars are. So many people lose their lives, very often at a tender age. Very moving.

Terrific photo of this portrait. It’s very difficult to imagine being a photographer in situations like this.

So appropriate for Memorial Day weekend. That was quite an article. I wonder if he's still alive.

@margonaut I wondered the same thing. He could have been someone I went to school with.

I can imagine why- as detached as a photographer would want to be, there is still a human element that can't be denied. It's an amazing shot.
