Clinton, Louisiana is a small town that seems, to an outsider like me anyway, to be stuck in the past.
I had to look up two of the flags. They are, from left to right: Bonnie Blue flag, used in the early years of the Confederacy, Confederate flag, state flags of Louisiana and Texas.
Stuck in the past sounds about right. Sigh. I had no idea there were two Confederate flags. It scares me when I see this kind of thing although (since it has a name) I wonder if this is some sort of historic home?
@louannwarren After I read your comment, I looked up the legality of flying the Confederate flag and found it's pretty complicated and varies among states and communities. I do know I see it much less than I used to.
@margonaut I get nervous when I see a Confederate flag, so I hesitated to take this photo! Clinton is a town that has a Confederate statue in front of the courthouse but its Confederate cemetery is in ruins. Many of the White students attend a segregated private academy while the Black students attend public schools.
The house is dated 1840. Many of the old homes in the towns have signs and dates, but they are not open to the public.
I was unaware that there was another Confederate flag. It is a little unnerving to see them displayed on the porch. It makes you wonder about the mind set of the residents.
