I went to an art exhibit yesterday, "The River is the Road: Paintings by George Rodrigue." This was one of his last paintings, begun after he learned his cancer had returned. It is pays tribute to a singer and song he loved, to his wife Wendy (represented by the hat) and--well, to what is symbolized by the river in the background, which is open to interpretation.
Oh so poignant. My husband loved the blue dog paintings. I just heard an NPR podcast (?) one morning this week about George Jones's funeral and how Alan Jackson sang this song to his widow at the very end.
