The bad: St. Alphonsus Church (1857) in New Orleans, damaged by hurricanes, is still closed and the building continues to deteriorate. It is no longer an active church.
The good: Nearby restoration work has started on St. Mary's Assumption Church (1860.) It is still an active parish and the site of the shrine of Blessed Father Francis Xavier Seelos.
Is this the "good news" church or the "bad news" church? It sure looks better than what I would expect of a church which is falling apart. Love the red doors on churches- which are meant to remind the faithful of Christ's shed blood which allows them to enter into the presence of God. Beautifully composed and photographed.
