Several lakes were created from swampland in the 1930's when LSU's current campus was being built. Mother Nature apparently did not approve. The lakes are often plagued with algae blooms and fish kills, and sediment is filling them in. A massive new project has begun to restructure the lakes.
I am betting nobody maintained them after they built them either. Sometimes mother nature will win over neglect. Although the lake itself doesn’t look very pretty the composition of the photo is nice
So true- if it wasn't there to begin with, it's going to take a lot of TLC to reshape the landscape and make the new layout stay. I agree with Katy though. The green water is not so appealing but the overall landscape is.
@grammyn@olivetreeann You are right! The lakes weren't properly maintained. It's expensive and sometimes it seemed like people couldn't agree on the best way to do things. Some of the most elegant homes in Baton Rouge are around the lakes, which are beautiful when they are healthy, Lots of birds.
