Ok, so long story...I had let our Maine Coon cat outside and heard the birds having a fit and thought they were mad at Coco. I looked out and just saw the back part of what I thought was my cat looking under the deck. Upon further review and a look out the window just above this cat... I discovered not only was this not my cat, but it was a BOBCAT!!!! I just had to grab my camera and see if I could get a few shots. This was through the window and trying to balance over my sink, so not the best quality. I then noticed my cat on the deck and went to get her inside before she became lunch. The bobcat took off and my cat went chasing after it! I called to her and she finally stopped at the top of the fence and came inside! Guess Coco is lucky she has "nine lives" lol!
@natr Thank you Nat! At first glance I thought the back end looked like my cat and then I noticed how big it was (and my cat is big). When it did take off, I could then see the stubby tail and it was about double the size of my cat!!
@justkariherself Thank you Kari!! At first it didn't see me and then I tapped the edge of my lens against the window and he/she turned it's head toward me. It then shifted and rolled on its side toward me just staring up! Was glad I had that window between us!
@exposure4u Wendy, I bet you were glad about the window! Such an exciting memory to have:) I love that you tapped on the window to get the shot. You obviously have entered the area where picture taking becomes second nature. You would never know this was a hurried and precariously taken photo. (Also, you paint a picture with words as wonderfully as you photograph.)
Holy cow!!!!! And WOW. And FAV
Such a magnificent animal. You captured him beautifully, especially considering the awkward position you must have been in.
What part of the country do you live in? I'd be afraid to let my cat outside, knowing that this predator is around. Brave little Coco, chasing after this bobcat.
@pasadenarose Thank you so much! I live in Colorado, so we have the bobcats as well as mountain lions (bear, elk, and deer too). I have only seen one other bobcat in the area and it was a few years ago. We had forest fires that came through this past summer and I am wondering if that is why this cat is in the neighborhood? I am definitely scared to let her out now!! She came to us as a stray a couple of years ago and just loves being outside. She thinks she's a lioness for sure!!
A true photographer, get the camera, take a few shots, oh, where is my cat?? Did the same thing with an owl that landed on top of the dove cage that we had outside our dining room window. Grab the camera, hope for the best, then think that the doves were okay in their cage, not flustered. The owl wasn't happy, but hey.

@byrdlip LOL!! That's just about how it went down too! I figured the our cat may be under the deck and that was why the bobcat was scrunched down looking under it. He didn't see me until I tapped the lens on the window.
@jwlynn64 Thank you John! @kwind Thank you! @jgpittenger Thank you so much Jane! I have been keeping my eye out for it!! We were out at twilight. I saw a coyote walking on the path about 300 yards in front of us. I told my companions, "Hey look, there's a coyote." but as soon as I said it, something didn't feel right about that pronouncement.
When it made a left hand turn into the bushes and we saw that long long tail, we knew what it was. At that moment, we decided to get out quickly.
Impressive cat! His markings are incredible! And his expression is curiosity, not "looks could kill"! The cat is curious, studying you. I've know a few bobcats personally. They were just big kitties!

And you say something stronger the first time you encounter a mountain lion on the trail. Go ahead and ask. Guess how I know?
