Probably one of my proudest moments as a photographer. I ended up traveling up Stony Pass near Silverton, Colorado searching out locations for sunset. My original location was higher than this, but had scouted out this area and could see the vast patch of columbines above the road. I started my shoot as the sun was starting to set, but it was all socked in and a bit uneventful, so I started my way back down the pass. As I approached this location, the rain was falling pretty heavily, but it was starting to clear up out west and the scene was getting a bit more dramatic. I decided I needed to hike up the side of this hillside to get to my patch of columbines. As I hiked up, the scene kept getting more dramatic and I even contemplated just setting up my tripod and shooting where I was...but something inside me kept calling me upward toward the patch of columbines. I made it as the fog started rolling in and the sky was lighting up. This is a focus stacked shot to include as much in focus as possible from the columbines to the mountains in the background. Hope you enjoy this Colorado moment...a combination of weather, columbines and sunset magic!
