... a steward of the land.
I had the honour of attending an ALUS presentation today. Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS) has a simple, yet revolutionary goal which is to create healthy, working landscapes that sustain both farming and wildlife.
This lady has allowed the space between her corn field and the river to be planted back into shrubs and trees so that animals, birds, and insects will have a healthy habitat. She will be paid a small stipend as land rent from organizations sponsoring this initiative.(This is not a government program) It's good for wildlife, it's good for the farmer, and it's good for society. But, most of all, it's good for future generations who will still have some natural spaces.
