Shearing Day by farmreporter

Shearing Day

93 ewes and 2 rams sheared with very few nicks or scrapes. A very good day.
Our shearer brings a helper so the two of them are able to get it done in pretty short order. It helps that hubby is there to bring the sheep forward, ensuring that the chute is always full of sheep ready to be sheared. He also loads the freshly shorn fleece into the wool bag., allowing the shearers to concentrate on shearing.
Mother-in-law handled the side-gate, closing it after a sheep was taken out to get shorn.
Lots of work but lots of helping hands to make it go smooth.
This shot shows the set-up with a line of sheep ready to be sheared and one ewe getting her nails trimmed.
Great shot. Shearing has got to be one of the most calorie-burning jobs there is, and such an art too.

Busy day! I'll bet you're glad when it's over. I look forward to seeing this process live in September!

My Anthony shears sheep .& it's darn hard work.......his fists swell up if he hasn't done any shearing for a while. Lovely to see your set up......a good job done. No Henry to shear for us this year...it nearly killed him last time so we were going to do him standing up but of course the poor old lad died.

Hi Wendy, I am so sorry that I didn't have a chance to give you a get-pushed challenge last week! My bad. I got totally knocked out by a sore throat & cold for most of the week, and was all the while in the woods without wifi! Hopefully we'll have another chance to connect soon! Best, Karyn

Love this photo! I have hair sheep so they do not need shearing. One is wooly and needs shearing. I bought some shears to try. She fights like crazy. I need your shearer. Haha! Fav
