Hockey is known as the Fastest Game in the World (at least here in Canada) and offers great photo practice trying to keep up with the players through the eye of the viewfinder.
I got a ton of photos of skaters racing up and down the ice but there was nothing special about them. The shots I captured at the goalie's net were more interesting.
There was no goal here but I did get the shot of the only goal of this game. However, both hubby and I found this shot to be a nicer looking one.
My only complaint about the whole experience is the dad-burned net that hangs from the ceiling to the ice to protect fans from flying pucks!
For this week's get pushed challenge of movement.
I had the same frustration trying to take tennis photos through the fence. Sometimes I could put my camera right up against one of the holes of the fence and then crop out the blurred lines of the edges, but it looks like the holes in your net are a lot smaller.
@jeffinvt
I also find them challenging, but I think they are my favourite subject to shoot. And, I love the practice. Who knows, action/sports may be my calling.
Great action shot! You might be able to get rid of the net with a longer lens and wide aperture so it's really out of focus, or by getting closer in and again getting the net out of focus
Kind of you to follow me. I haven't been posting lately, but I have many images you might enjoy spread over the last 5 years...v Thank you for thinking I am worthy of being followed.
i never liked hockey; games 99% of the time always have some brawl of some kind in them and i hate it. it spoils the game so i never bothered with it. great shot though, those sports photogs better watch out!
@summerfield
I know what you mean about the fights - the going joke used to be "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" LOL!
But, they have cleaned up the game quite a bit and there aren't that many fights anymore.

Yes- it is a very fine mesh here - much smaller than a lens.
