It is winter with fresh white snow all over the place, which makes the first part of the white challenge easy, and what is more winter - and Canadian - than white skates!
These are my youngest daughter's skates. She is quite an accomplished figure skater who loved the sport and competition.
Okay, I know I allowed some colour to creep in here, but I love colour! The tree in the background is a birch tree with white bark though the grass peeking through is a delicate, pale brown.
@farmreporter works for me ... hope it works for you too. I have granddaughters coming in an hour, and then I invariably fall asleep for a bit after they leave ... ;-)
This is such a well done still-life. You've framed the skates so well and that position of the tongue of the skate makes this a story told. You're white-on-white has been inspiring since your pearls on sweater (which I echoed last night...lol).
@aecasey You, as usual, have given another great challenge! Thank you!
The tutorial was very informative - and has given me a couple of ideas!
BTW - I hope the challenge I gave to you works for you. Let me know if you would rather have something else.
@farmreporter I already have an idea for my black on black. It was funny, though, as I was just looking at your's and reading about keeping the blacks dust free so you didn't have to do so much in processing when I read my challenge. Useful hint!
Very nice! The setting is so perfect for the skates and although the shot could come off as contrived, it doesn't. It makes perfect sense that the skates are out in the snow. I like the little hint of color. Since it's muted and earth tone, it doesn't take away from the shot- rather it just adds to the wintery feel.
Thanks for the reminder - will issue yours this evening if that is okay with you!
Hope this works. If not, let me know and I'll set another challenge.

Thank you so much for your super kind comment on my glass acorn picture. I really appreciate you taking the time to type such a sweet comment.
