I never realized how many perfectly symmetrical houses there are around here until I started looking for them.
This historic home is on a busy corner, right across from the Martintown Mill and, as the name suggests, is also on the banks of the Raisin River.
That house is so symmetrical I can't stop staring at it! I'm a bit unobservant about lots of things, and when I replaced the windows in my house my mother-in-law (who built and lived in this house for some twenty years prior to our moving in) said I'd ruined it. I was a bit willy-nilly on the size and shape of windows. I still like them anyway. I did the same thing many years later when putting windows into a house we remodeled for our son ... really messed up the two upper windows on the east side ... they are different sizes though there are just the two (one was in a bathroom though) ... I'm not good at creating symmetry!
It's a tradition in our area. Lots of people put names on their homes.
