There is a story to this odd looking photo that was done mostly in camera.
Kathy @randystreat challenged me to try out the Orton Effect this week for my get pushed challenge.
Now, the Orton effect is usually done with landscapes to give a dreamy effect. However, I did not get out much this week so I decided to give it a try on our newly decorated Christmas tree instead.
And, I decided to do it in camera since my PS skills are practically non-existent.
The first set of photos I took were over-exposed and the second set was under-exposed so I thought ... why not do a HDR to get a proper exposure.
And that is how this came about!
Here you go, Kathy @randystreat .
So sorry it took too long to do ... had a very busy week but I am pleased to say that I have my gifts wrapped, Christmas cards sent, and our Christmas tree up!
Can now concentrate on other things (like photography)
I understand. Glad that you tried it. The photo turned out a bit magical - the carousel horse is moving in the tree. I'm been naughty giving techniques (which I hate but appreciate the outcome of) out as challenges.
@randystreat
Please do not apologize, Kathy! I quite enjoyed this challenge and it got me thinking outside the box.
I knew that the Orton Effect was done by shooting a sharp, well focused shot and then the same scene out of focus, blend the two, and you have a dreamy looking scene.
I was originally going to use focus staking but then realized - as a lazy photographer - I could get the same effect with a double exposure!
While it is usually done with landscape it was fun to see if it would work with a closer image.
And this is what I love about the get pushed challenges ... they allow us to experiment and see the results. These results do not always work in the way we expect, but each gp challenge offers a teaching moment that we can take with us for future photos.
Thank you for a fabulous challenge!
@farmreporter I felt that you had the photographic skills to handle this challenge. And you're right. The GP challenges do help to build skills and at least dabble in different techniques.
@frappa77
How cool is that!
Will do your challenge. I am so glad to have my Christmas tree up so I can do this!
When you say colour on colour - do you mean just one colour - say green on green or red on red?

My proposal for get pushed challenge is to realize a colour on colour photo with a Christmas theme...
How cool is that!

Exactly! Green on green or red on red and so on... I look forward to see your answer to the challenge!
