Searching for Answers

Jacqueline @jacqbb introduced me to Dutch photographer Annemarie Spilker and directed me to her portraits under the title ‘Searching to fill the emptiness’ where she said “After my studies I was insecure of what my future would be. I was searching for something, but not knowing what for.”

This really resonated with me since I too have an unknown future. All I know is that we will be moving to Alberta this Spring but have no idea where, or when … with a possibility of not moving at all to boot!
Annemarie’s chose to be looking off to the distance in her portraits in this portfolio, as if she were searching for the answer. I attempted to replicate that in my selfie. I chose our barn as the background since it represents the farm which was such an important part of our lives these past 20 years.
Aa well thought out self portrait. This must leave you with a bit of anxiety. Change is hard. Not knowing is harder.

Thank you for adding the link. I had a look at her website and really enjoyed it. You nailed the feeling I got with many of her self-portraits in your photo here! Well done.
Moving is never easy, but the uncertainty you face at the moment is even harder. Stay strong!

Sorry for this time of worry & possible move….you must feel very unsettled. Hard to leave somewhere so familiar too. I think farmers don’t move well either as we are so rooted to the particular land we have worked. Good luck, will watch with interest your movements.

@farmreporter Thank you for your beautiful response and narrative. It must be unsettling for you. It is never easy to move but must be harder because of your work on the farm. I wish you all the luck in the world this coming period!

Wow what a lovely self portrait in front of your barn with your dog!

Sorry to hear of your uncertain times, hope everything works out for you and your family.

My sister and her husband were living in Calgary, Alberta and loved it there, this summer they moved back to Ontario actually to Ottawa.
Her daughter had identical twin girls in June so the move has been necessary to help her daughter.

It's not that bad. Just makes me wonder what the future holds in a good way. Kinda like Christmas morning when you wonder what is in the presents!
We are heading West to go house / job hunting late February for a month.
Would love to have a house settled and moved in by the end of May so I can have a garden but who knows?
