Laura @la_photographic asked me to create a photo or collage to represent a book or other written work for this week’s get pushed challenge. The cold weather and the inevitable frost on the chicken coop door reminded me of the poem ‘Frost on the Window’ by Mary Stewart which was published in the early 1990s.
Mary Stewart has long been one of my favourite authors. I read many of her books when I first began reading starting with Arthurian legend series (The Crystal Cave, Hollow Hills, etc) and then progressed to her mysteries when I grew older.
So, I grabbed her poetry book from the library as soon as it came out and, while not a fan of poetry, I really enjoyed her work.
I spent over an hour online trying to find her poem with no luck. Could only find where I could purchase the book containing it!
So rather than using her poem with this shot, I found a quote by Lydia M. Child instead.
Nature made us individuals, as she did the flowers and the pebbles; but we are afraid to be peculiar, and so our society resembles a bag of marbles, or a string of mold candles. Why should we all dress after the same fashion? The frost never paints my windows twice alike.
Alright, I just thought of your challenge. Try making an image while aiming your camera straight up. Kind of the opposite of the "bird's eye view" shot.
Thank you, Marloes!
A fabulous comment from you!
