Brownstone by fauxtography365

Brownstone

When I was a student at NYU, I wanted to live in one of those pretty brownstones that line 11th and 12th Streets. I remember once overhearing a resident Greenwich Villager refer to us students as those "damn NYU kids." I never knew what she meant until years later long after graduation, living in that neighborhood, that those damn NYU kids are, in fact, annoying when you're not one of them.

I had a shit day today. A tough one. But I'm not gonna be the girl crying on the train today. Going home to workout like a boss. It's the best therapy I can give to myself these days.
Love the door! Work out that aggression!

During the summers of my college years I used to work on the UES on Park Ave. as a doorman. I always you to glance up at them and wonder what it was like inside and who lived there and if I'd like them. I think I developed the lives of hundreds of people in those brownstones through my imagination.

@jbenn0117 Josh, I've done that too! Imagined what it was like inside, what the people were like, etc.

I love when you talk about a killer workout, then go out there and just nail it!! That's awesome. I took a part-time/late night gig as a Trainer in my neighborhood. been flying solo for a long time. Looking forward to giving back. Just love the whole lifestyle. Btw...I love those brownstones as well. Nice shot.

@fauxtography365 lol. True. Those betches got me by the balls.
March 14th, 2013
@adamj neat that you were a trainer! I always thought that kind of gig would be sorta fun aside from the health benefits. I feel sooo good after a workout. Used to be pretty vigilant about working out in my 20s, particularly during a time of employment when I was bored out of my mind looking for work. Then I kind of fell out of for awhile. Started a routine again when I was in grad school. Now I do it for the mental benefits/stress relief and...it doesn't hurt that exercise makes ya look good naked lol. Anyhoo, working on challenging myself on working out the parts of the body I find hard to do. Like, I'd rather do stomach crunches all day than squats or any leg routine. It's my weakness. But...I need to do them squats.

@snaphappy1 Mail the diploma back and see if it'll pay back whatever you owe? bwahahahaha.
March 14th, 2013
@fauxtography365 Well, couple of things. For someone who avoids, or dislikes working her legs, you have a killer pair! That said, you do not have to confine yourself to squats. There are some fun cardio activities that really provide a glute and leg burn. Can't get into here of course. To be continued. Just to clarify if I may, I am still a trainer :))

@snaphappy1 I just pictured myself at NYU Bursar's office with my diploma and a receipt, saying, "I'd like a refund ,please. I'll settle for $150,000. Large bills only." God knows I don't use my undergrad degree for what I do now. Ah....but I don't regret the experience. Can't put a price on that.
March 14th, 2013
@adamj but i hate cardio lolol. Actually have gotten into jogging in the past few years. Does that help? I may continue to pick your brain about fitness, sir.
March 14th, 2013
@fauxtography365 You would be providing me with great pleasure. I love, love talking, teaching wellness and fitness. Never a bother. I do not perform, nor ask anyone else to perform traditional cardio. In fact, I misspoke. I should have used the term metabolic burn in place of cardio. Keep your workouts brief and intense. Use high intensity interval training. Little or no rest while you perform compound movements. This mean to work your body in multiple planes so that you are working multiple muscles simultaneously. 30 minutes 5 days a week. Performed correctly (quality over quantity) it's all you need for that summer bod and good health. We did not even talk about nutrition yet......Ugh.
March 14th, 2013
@adamj hey, thanks for the tips! I've been working out 30 minutes a week for at least five days now, beginning March 1. The leg workout I do, I found on the internet (can't really afford a gym right now) and it incorporates high intensity interval training. HIIT, right? That's the term you fitness folks use? I used to have a trainer when I was a member of a gym who gave me a "syllabus" of what I should do independently when our training period was over. I use some of the tips she gave me...but some of that may not be relevant to me now as I'm ten years older, have a different body, different metabolism, exercises have changed, etc. etc.

Hahaha I know what you mean in that I love those blocks lined with brownstones around WSP, but I and used to grumble about those NYU professors having the mint accomodations and offices there. The students ... eh yeah annoying but I know a lot of them (or did back then). Even now I'm there often enough for NYU Law functions. Cool pic with punch in the face red door. Can you mention what type of work you do as its come up a few times in your comments?
March 16th, 2013
@michaelelliott about the NYU professors having the mint accomodations...I had to drop off a paper once to a professor and he asked me to drop it off and leave it with his doorman. He had an apartment on 5th ave. As a kid, I remember thinking, "Well excuuuuse me. NYU profs have doormen?" As for what I do, I work in mental health as a counselor. Totally different than what I went to NYU for.
