Before Sunrise

"But I also know that you love me. And I'm okay with you being a complicated human being. I don't want to live a boring life, where two people own each other, where two people are institutionalized in a box that others created because that is a bunch of stifling bullshit."
– Jesse from Before Midnight

My boyfriend asked me out on a date tonight. We're gonna check out some live music :). Sometimes I refer to my husband as my boyfriend...and for some reason people think it's funny. But he's still also my boyfriend. We still date.

I've been meaning to journal about the movie Before Midnight which I saw recently. If you haven't ever seen the "Before ..." movies with Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, I highly recommend you do.

Warning though... If lots of talking in movies ain't your thing, these movies aren't for you. I remember when I first saw Before Sunrise, I was 18 and left the theater feeling slightly bored and disappointed by the movie. A few years later when I was older and had graduated to relationships where talking and laughing was as much as the main highlight as cuddling and fucking, I saw Before Sunrise again and totally appreciated it on a different level.

When my husband and I were just hanging out - before we actually started dating - we would talk and talk and talk for hours. I loved those times. These days we can spend hours at a time with each other in blissful and comfortable silence. But there are times where we get to talking like we used to...and I love it. The kind of dialogue that exists in these Before movies.

Before Sunset is actually my favorite installment of them all. One of the best scenes ever (second to last scene) is this one:

But Before Midnight is the final chapter of Jesse and Celine's story. The movie... Especially the last 30 minutes... Absolute genius. I had to watch it a second time just to let the dialogue sink in. It reminds me of the kind of arguments husband and I have had... The quote above is from the movie and it feels like it's something my husband has said to me before.

Another great quote:

"I'm giving you my whole life, okay? I got nothing larger to give. I'm not giving it to anybody else. If you're looking for permission to disqualify me, I'm not gonna give it to you. Okay? I love you. And I'm not in conflict about it, okay?"
– Jesse

Anyway...check it out if you feel so inclined.

Looking forward to my date tonight :)

Pic is from this morning's commute. It actually wasn't before sunrise...but I took artistic liberties with the title.
Beautiful shot! Have a great date night! :)

Beautiful shot. How was the date? I saw the first two movies, and didn't know that a third had come out. I'll have to check it out.

@adamj thanks, Adam!

@paulie the third one is just as good. I actually had a hard time keeping focused listening to the dialogue the first time watching. But that's because I was folding laundry at the time. Lol. But the second time watching it was worth it. And I had a very nice date. Thanks for asking :)

@thirdjoe I think they're pretty good movies. Some find them too slow and too much talking...but I like that type of movie from time to time. If you check it out, let me know what you think!
