Holy sheeeeet. So for some reason this week, a bunch of bipolar clients have decided to have manic episodes. All at the same time. Cuhhhraaayzeee.
For many of them, their mania involves sexually promiscuous or risky acts and disinhibited behavior.
I have all sorts of contraception in my office, hence this picture. Been giving these out like its Halloween candy today.
In my work, I am the keeper of many people's sexual secrets -- a lot of their fantasies and the kinky shit they may do. Even in my private life too, even before I got into the mental health profession...friends even co-workers (why? I dunno) would confide in me about those sorts of things...
Things I've observed that I can actually share here?
Older people (like 65+) still get down and are just as freaky-deaky (if not more) than younger people.
It's always the quiet ones.
And, apparently, sex when you're manic?
Sounds pretty fan-fucking-tastic. But it's the depression that follows that I would never wish upon anyone...
So, yeah, there's that...
Pic sucks btw and topic is weird for some people, so don't feel inclined to respond. Just felt like sharing. :P
@fauxtography365 Do it. It would be very popular I'm sure. I want to write a book. I can't figure out what to write about yet. Maybe THIS Is my answer;-).
@amandal haha maybe you should give it a go. Before I did what I am doing now, I worked in PR and marketing... One of my accounts was a sex/porn website geared towards women run by a woman. Now THAT was really interesting. There's obviously a market to be tapped into -- ie fifty shades of gray and all that. It made that woman a rich woman lol. And her writing was kinda god awful....
Why, this is an outrage! I've never been so offended in all my...are you buying any of my bullshit? Intense stuff you are exposed to. The human condition that by in large remains hidden from main stream society. We will have to exchange stories some day :)
An interesting photo and story bringing one to the ever popular life force. Such a powerful desire; that at times can be overwhelming especially during the full moon or not ! Life is so cool..thanks for sharing
I can so relate to what you are saying...and agree! and the disinhibition they go through is amazing! Regarding choosing this profession, I can also relate to that...it's what probably attracted us to the field of mental health...I was somehow the point of contact for most of friends who wanted a shoulder to cry on, even before I got into medical school :) Still a long way for summer when things tend to calm down a little hehehe :)
@jpgiorgio i knew you could relate... the disinhibition I see or what's reported to me is WILD. Dat shit be cray cray. I find it absolutely fascinating. I don't know what it is, but even people who don't really know me or what i do, tell me the most 'out-there' shit sometimes....and a portion of it is sexual in nature. do other people experience this? wtf lol
I much prefer your selfies, but you make many relevant points. I am blessed or cursed with only PTSD to deal with. There are many more debilitating conditions that afflict people. I sometimes wonder of the hectic pace of modern life places strains on a brain that hasn't evolved to deal with it.
I love that your photos always have a story to compliment them. It must be pretty fascinating to hear people's most private thoughts. I confess that I'd probably enjoy reading a book about the sexual exploits of the mentally ill.
@tonydebont I also think the hectic pace of modern life can take a toll on us. And maybe you're right...our brains haven't evolved enough to keep up...
@jbc2013 thanks, Josh. The stories I hear are fascinating... Some stories aren't easy to hear, like stories of abuse. But the other stuff... The fantasies or escapades...that's pretty rich material. Also gives me a good perspective on what's normal or deviant. When I meet people for the first time in a professional or personal situation and they start disclosing stuff to me, I find it interesting when they preface it with..."This might sound crazy but..." Lol. Very little phases or surprises me now.
I may be the lone wolf here, but could it be that people pursue sex as their ultimate goal - seeking not only a physical climax but also a spiritual one? Then after it's all finished all they are left with is a mess (both physical and possibly emotional too), and no long-term gratification.
The spiritual gratification/climax can only be obtained by trying to fill themselves not with another human being, but by pursuing their creator. Only by seeking God (through Jesus), can this spiritual longing be fulfilled and the associated long-term gratification (eternal actually) be obtained.
Yes, I know what to expect from this comment (unfortunately) - so the hating may now commence.
@mikeable well i would hope no "hate" would be thrown your way for your lovely comment and thoughts about this topic. I'm of the opinion that people's attitudes about sex should be respected, even if they differ from others.
From my own observations, be it through professional experience, personal experience, talking with others about it... I would have to agree with you that most humans are trying to pursue more than just the physical joy when it comes to sex. Many are looking for more whether they realize it or not... It can be spiritual, emotional, etc. In regards to my work, my purpose is to help people find out how they use sex in their lives and IF it is, in any way, destructive or impairs their well-being according to their beliefs and overall functioning in society, then I try to help them seek better life choices to help improve the quality of their lives. The way I deal with sex in my personal life...is well, personal. And the only person privy to that is my lover. But that's a complete tangent.
On the technical side of sex... if ya ask some people (maybe more women than men)...climax isn't even what is the most satisfying thing about sex. Could be the emotional connection they feel...spiritual...power...whatever.
I've had many conversations about how people feel regarding this topic... some people are very free with their bodies and expression. Some people feel it should be expressed in the context that you describe...in a spiritual or religious way.
Clearly, this isn't a black and white topic...and I do welcome all different opinions on the matter. And I don't know if what I've written has added any value to your comment but I do appreciate it! :)
I deal with bipolar people (along with all other mental health issues), all day every day and much as they can be very interesting, they can also be very draining. Unfortunately most of the ones I deal with don't use condoms.
As for there being a relationship between full moons and behaviour, it may not be proven scientifically but it sure does happen! @tosee
@kjarn I remember you saying you're a mental health nurse? Then you can relate. My guys don't always practice safer sex but I would be remiss if I didn't offer contraceptive or advocate for it. For state or city agencies we are obligated to...
