Samphire Hoe Tower by fbailey

Samphire Hoe Tower

A 10m watch tower under the White Cliffs of Dover '...inspired by traditional wooded fishing sheds and coastguard stations. The frame is French oak and the cladding Welsh larch. The sound installation is a symphony of sounds triggered by moving the telescope ...'

Extract from The Artist's Story (www.jonyeasterby.co.uk)
'The plan has always been to house a sound installation within the tower ... The soundscape will be a collaboration between the Norwegian composer (Geir Jenssen) and the artist. The telescope will act as an interactive interface linking the landscape views with audio content and allow visitors to change and modulate the sounds. Pre recorded digital sound will seamlessly mix with live sounds from shortwave and marine band radio. The power for this will come from solar panels mounted on the top section of the tower. This is due to be installed in the spring of 2005.'
Nice mono: 'sounds' interesting! :-)

A very interesting narrative. I really like the 'bleakness' of this image - even better on black.

@ivan You do make me smile, thank you!
@777margo @hermann Thank you both for taking the time to comment - until I stopped by the Tower and read the information plaque beside it, I had no idea what it was. Had never heard of anything like this before. Will revisit when it's open.
@megpicatilly Thanks Catherine, it's dark blue in colour and against a bright blue sky it just looked too pretty somehow.

Brilliant, quite brilliant.. the textures in the grasses are phenomenal, absolutely outstanding.. love the leading line of the posts and wire, which leads us upward before descending to - wherever the viewer imagines.. but the horizon shows us water.. i like mystery.. love the textures in the sound tower, you have captured the weathering very nicely.. the composition works immensely well with everything flowing nicely together.

@jclaireyp Thank you, happy you liked it!
@jorlam You have just made my day - thank you so much! There are quite a few pictures of this on the internet but they looked away from the sea showing the cliffs. Just wanted to strip it right back.
@cindymc Thanks very much!

Beautiful composition. Also, interesting story. Anything made of French Oak and Welsh Larch would get my vote.
