This time I took a tripod with me! I also took a small Sheltie on an extendable lead which was a very big mistake. She was extremely bored with the whole proceedings and spent her time at the harbour either trying to investigate what was at the edge of the harbour wall (I was scared she'd fall over!) / weaving in and out of the tripod legs / trying to trip me up. This session took a lot longer than I'd planned ...
The dog issues sound very familiar. I feel guilty if I don't take my sweet dog but sometimes she just doesn't get the finer points of photography:)
This is a wonderful night photo. Love the boats being in the foreground.
Sounds like a typical dog to me. Maggie's a pain in the posterior when I'm really trying to get a more tricky shot. But the shot was well worth any hassle, and I'm sure your Sheltie didn't suffer any harm. Fab photo, sharp and full of detail.
Harbours are places of potential adventure to me. I always want to know where the boats are going, who is on them, why..... Haven't been to Folkestone in ages, must remedy that sometime.
I like this better than the other one, but note the ISO is the same, quite high at 6400. I think you could have lowered the ISO and used a slower shutter speed to get a less grainy image. I might sound as though I know what I am talking about, but will stand to be corrected!!!
Great shot. Exposure is always tricky for night shots. Looks as if it was taken from almost the same spot as my (much less challenging) daylight one on 14/11. Folkestone fishing boats are really photogenic.

Note to self. Never take a dog with me when I am taking photos. ha ha.
