Forgive this rather odd picture today, please? I was amazed at how much I could see with the camera.. at the top of our church tower is this rather sweet gargoyle clearly opening wide! With that wonderful blue sky behind him I just had to slot him in, and thought this odd collage with the church tower would put his position in the world into better context.
Horologists among you might be interested to know that the tower clock was made in 17th century when Thomas Tompion, who lived in the village, was making clocks for the nobility and changing the face of British timekeeping.
I was chuffed to bits that so many of you enjoyed the breath of spring I found in the churchyard yesterday - thank you so much, as always, for your lovely comments, you really make my day!
Great shot and way of highlighting. I understand that the purpose of gargoyles relates to copper and lead roofing used in middle ages. The run off was poisonous so gargoyles which are the spouts were used to frighten a superstitious populace from drinking water
Speaking of creepy, hubby and I did go see "The Woman in Black" last weekend. I haven't had a good old-fashioned scare like that in years! Daniel Radcliffe was great. It's a British cast so I thoroughly enjoyed all the lovely dialects and British-ness!! I would describe it as Harry Potter meets Gothic Ghost Story with a few child zombies thrown in for fun!
