Of course nothing says Paris quite like the Eiffel Tower, apparently built as a temporary exhibit in 1889 yet still there and the tallest building in Paris. We were so excited to see it shining out the night we arrived and couldn't wait to go there the next day. We caught a Batobus from the Louvre and arrived with great anticipation, amazed every time we looked up at how incredibly high it is! Alas the mother of all queues was waiting for the only operational lift so we decided to come back at night.
We arrived in time to see the lights come on at 9pm, turning the pig iron golden with a crackle of extra lights like 1000 of your camera flashes going off! It really was lovelier by night. Alas the good news and bad news was that the queue was down to 'over 2 hours' and the fountains were working even less than the lifts... but we were too weary to worry. We took some shots, ate a croque monsieur under the glow and begged a friendly-looking taxi driver to take us home, discussing English football all the way!
So we never made it to the top of the Eiffel tower... next time maybe!
The adventure continued the next day....
There are simply too many wonderful things to choose from so forgive me bopping between this and my 2nd 'just stuff' album. https://365project.org/filsie65/365/2019-03-08
Great shot. I've never seen it with the lights like that. Too bad you couldn't get up..... maybe it was the same people who were queueing for the London Eye when we were in London in the summer 2010. Had to give up because the queue was just too long.
Ooh, I want to see that. I know the Parisians think it's so trite to put the lights on their landmark, but I think it's an awesome idea. I'll see it some day. Very beautiful night shot.
Oh.....beautiful shot Phil! I just loved the Eiffel Tower as well! Do go up next time , it is quite interesting to see how the city revolves around it! Oh I just love Paris! GREAT CAPTURE! :)
We arrived at 9 on a Monday and the queue for the lifts went on and on and on even then. So we joined the queue for the stairs and we were on our way up very soon after 9:30. You can walk up to the second level, and then queue there for another lift to the top - I waited about 10 minutes. I think the queue for the stairs got a lot longer through the morning though.
@north_ender Ha! Yes, queues exactly like that!! George wanted to walk up the stairs but we wanted to go up to Notre Dame's belltower as well (no lifts!) and I really didn't think I could manage both!! We went back at night and the queues weren't much better,, "
This shot is fantastic. The lights on the tower look so golden! And the sky is still blue though turning black. Perfect timing to get an amazing picture. Too bad about the lines though. We never made it up the tower either when we were there. We did take the stairs partway up and had some fun,but time was short and we couldn't get to the top. Like you, I think....next time!
