Well, year two starts here... goodness only knows how I'll find another 365 shots but then I had no idea this time last year either. One at a time...!
This was almost surreal... we spotted a little bird (a greenfinch?) on the bird feeder, went out, took a shot up close and George even stroked it! He turned the feeder around so that I could get a shot of it in the sunlight but at that point he flew off! He was so tame we were even wondering if he was a pet that had escaped, but oh boy did he like our birdfood! Keeping a look out for him ....
I usually do a sincere thank you here and spend more time viewing and commenting on your shots - yesterday's shot was special and I was so very touched by all your generous praise and sweet comments so I replied individually... hope I didn't miss anyone out! The rapport on this site is so very special I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels it is what keeps them going. Mwah to you all! :) x
It appears to be quite content with its new feeder! I suspect he will be back! And I know you will find something everyday to snap a photo of...looking forward to it, as a matter of fact!
Pretty little birdy! He looks a little like a canary. Wild birds are very unlikely to let humans touch them, so I'd think maybe he's a pet that escaped or was let go. Perhaps check out parrotalert.com and 911parrotalert.com to see if anyone has reported a bird missing in your area.
Lovely clear shot of this little greenfinch. @shannew Shanne's right, there's a horrible virus that affects finches, mainly greenfinches. I think it's a parasite that twists the gut and prevents them from being able to feed properly. They end up blowing up like tennis balls and eventually die :o( xx
What a way to start off the New Year.
Can't believe it even let itself be petted. Great bird shot.
