Frederick the Great's Snuff Box (My Macro Monday)

Well first time I've uploaded a pic of a tiny snuffbox on my project! I saw this at the V&A and thought it was rather smashing. While visiting great houses etc I sometimes play a game, in which I have to choose one thing to take home, one for the charity shop and one for the bin. This was high on the list 'to take home' which was a hard choice considering the wonderful jewellery floor there....!
Made in Berlin, this includes Mother of pearl, gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphire, spinel, amethyst, turquoise, hardstones, glass and foil. Not bad for holding ground tobacco. (!)
I'll insert a heap of info into the comments section for anyone who's interested.
Regardless, I thank you for calling by :) mwah
Frederick II was known as Frederick the Great. Under his rule, Prussia became one of the dominant powers of Europe. His taste in elegant boxes was shaped by his mother. A cultivated admirer of the arts, he carried a box at all times – one even saved his life by deflecting a bullet in 1759. When he became king in 1740, Frederick banned the import of French luxury products ‘for the good of Berlin’s goldsmiths’...!
(So I guess it's nothing new!!)
One of the most flamboyant of Frederick’s collection, this box is decorated with swirling Rococo ornament and set with coloured gemstones and diamonds. The forget-me-not flowers are carved from turquoise, with yellow centres made of glass.

I'm sure I could find room for it in my display case...!! ;)

I can see why you chose this. Great closeup. And I really like all the information.

It's pretty and I admire the artistry of it, but it's not my taste so I'd probably bring something else home! Fun game you've made up for yourself there. Great macro!

I feel really bad that I thought this was a pizza from the thumbnail :s ,,,should've gone to Specsavers! Having seen it close up I can now see how decadent and ornate it actually is. A beautiful shot of a beautiful piece xx
