Towers and chimneys

This week is a mixture of sorting the last cupboards, and au revoirs... I'm trying to fit in seeing as many of my closest local friends as I can before moving next week. Today I went to Burghley house in Cambridgeshire with my piano teacher and dear friend Sarah. She particularly wanted to see a painting... which turned out to be in the private apartments! Ah well, we had a lovely day anyway. This was the view across an inner courtyard.. I was enamoured of all the turrets with pennants, chimneys etc - built by William Cecil, one of Elizabeth I's closest advisors. The house had history across the ages and the gardens were lovely too. Such places always make me wonder about the people who have spent time there over the years...
Delighted you called by - thank you! :)
FAV, this is quite lovely

Such great architecture. It's nice you are catching up with friends before your move.

I seem to remember visiting Burghley horse trials once, many years ago, but I didn't get to see the house. It looks beautiful.
