One of my favourite buildings, just love the intricacies of the coloured stone, and the detail in the building. This was taken on a flying visit there to see the photographic exhibition before going to the Royal Albert Hall later. They were ice-skating outside and the whole atmosphere was lovely under the blue sky.
This didn't make it to my main album, but I went ace and got the 2nd album at Christmas and I was reminded of it today.
# View it large and spot the different animals on the roof if you can!
Nice shot, and wow! Never knew those animals were there! :-)

@gurry @tabbycat I think this IS the building snapped from the cab... Gary would have been driving along the front further along from that tower on the left which is the main entrance and has a glorious arched doorway. I took this shot to get the roof/blue sky but you can maybe imagine how it would be?

@jenirainbow Thanks Jeni! We were hanging around a bit waiting for my sister and spotted all manner of wonderful carvings in the stonework - birds, serpents, frogs, leaves... all sorts. The kids were desperate to see the diplodocus etc inside so I couldn't take lots of shots but noticed the animals all along the roof, all in different poses. Gosh they knew how to make buildings beautiful in those days :)

@filsie65 I think it is astonishing that they made such elaborate buildings (and other things) with so little technology compared to us, and we make concrete car parks!

@jenirainbow My sentiments exactly! Those Victorians knew a thing or two about beauty which hasn't been remembered by subsequent generations,... or perhaps subsequent planners.

Lovely! very sharp picture and very well composed The building itself is incredible, and the beautiful weather makes it easy to see all the details. I've been there about 12 yrs ago!

Lovely shot Phil - the sunlight really brings out the colour of the stone. Didn't know those animals were there!

what an incredible looking building! The tones are so wonderful. Some day I'll have to come to England and we'll ditch all our kids so we can just send all day taking wonderful pictures :)

@jenirainbow I agree with you about modern architecture vs old classic structures like this lovely building. I'm always amazed by the intricacies of old cathedrals. Great shot Phil.
