Not only did I take a lot of photos of Scarborough castle a few days ago ( http://365project.org/fishers/365/2014-04-11), but also various views over the town of Scarborough from the castle.
The castle is on a headland some 300 feet above the sea, and some 100 feet above the highest part of the town. This shot shows the view over the castle entrance towards North Bay. The castle entrance has been rebuilt several times over the centuries following damage during various periods when the castle was under attack.
Outside the castle entrance are several more modern buildings whose design was obviously influenced by the design of the castle.
Further away large hotels top the cliffs towards the shore in the top right of the shot. The cliffs below the hotel have been landscaped and are now gardens, a children's play area and other facilities.
Several childhood holidays were spent staying at a small guest house in North Bay, and I have many happy memories of times spent holidaying in Scarborough.
A wonderfully sharp view of the castle and also of the whole vista into the distance. Haven't been here for many years - good to be reminded of a great place.
Beautiful view of this beautiful castle and the city. Fav.
If the boulevard on this pic. is the only one ( please tell me) I`ve moor/tide up there with a ship there to unload timber. We came in by hight tide and by low tide it was a beach. As it was in summer of +/- 1960 there where a lot of tourist and they all where very interesting in everything and about all. The unload takes tree weeks instead of the normal tree day`s because we could n`t work save . We did have a great tree weeks.
Thank you Steve and Pam - Scarborough was once a very popular holiday resort, but is less so now. It is a fascinating place with quite an interesting history.

Thank you Ferry, and thank you for the fav! - this isn't where the harbour is, that is the other side of the headland. This link to the Yorkshire Post newspaper website has a view of the harbour from the castle http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/main-topics/general-news/tide-turns-against-rock-armour-at-scarborough-spa-1-6313167 I remember on my holidays in the 1960s seeing the boats unloading timber there.
