After seeing the cyclists in the Tour de France, Katharine and I had a walk around parts of the city centre to get shots of the many things associated with Le Tour - bunting, yellow bikes (and other things!), a street party, window decorations and many other things, but on the way home I spotted these houses in Bootham, along the route of Le Tour.
They were amongst those not decorated, but their distinguished front framed by the tree caught my eye.
Bootham follows the alignment followed by a Roman road almost 2,000 years ago, and it has remained an important transport link since then. Many of the houses are Georgian in age (1714-1830) with others from the Victorian period (1837-1901). No overall plan was followed but the variety of styles and heights create an attractive an interesting street scene, and this shot reflects a small part of that.
