(Very) Old Queen's Head, Sheffield by fishers

(Very) Old Queen's Head, Sheffield

This attractive old timber framed building is in the heart of Sheffield, and surrounded by much more recent developments. A 20th century office block towers over it on the left of the shot, and to the right, out of shot, is Pond Street Bus Station.

This isn't the first time this building has appeared in our project. Lucy included a shot of it and a brief history last year - http://365project.org/fishers/365/2013-07-15.

The Queen in the pub's name is likely to be Mary, Queen of Scots, who was imprisoned in Sheffield from 1570 to 1584.

Fabulous I love these old Tudor buildings

Glad they preserved this though - there's a similar old tudor pub in the Arndale Centre in Manchester that they raised two stories on a concrete platform to place it at the heart of the shopping complex... that was nearly 50 years ago though!

Another building with so much history. glad they didn't tear it down for a more modern one, like a High Rise.

@vignouse

Thank you Richard - I know the pub you mean in Manchester - last time I was there it was rather overshadowed by a large wheel to encourage visitors to enjoy the view!

@fishers I've dredged up the name from the last time I was in there 47 years ago - Sinclair's Oyster Bar!
