Stonegate in York has been a busy thoroughfare for centuries and was one of the old Roman roads.
Normally a picture like this would be full of people but on Christmas day it is possible to take a picture and see some of the lovely Medieval and Georgian buildings.
@gamelee Thanks Lee. This was the best time to window shop and see what was in the window - the down side was that I couldn't buy anything. Ian was relieved! katharine
@tonydebont Thank you Tony. It is nice to wander on the least busy day of the year. It used to be like this all winter when I first came to Yotk in the early 1070's Katharine
@vignouse Thank you for the comment and fav. I like to be reminded of what York was like years ago when it had a quiet period in winter. It seems to have contracted to a couple of days a year! No doubt the city fathers are pleased it is so busy all year round. Katharine
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian. I did look at both your pictures - quiet and busy. They both have a lot to offer in picture terms and in life terms. Katharine
@juliac Thank you. It was like stepping into the past, well when I first arrived in York in the 1970's. It was like this all the time in the winter months. Katharine
