Clifton Green is about a mile north-east of the centre of York, and it was once the centre of a separate village. There are a number of attractive buildings around the Green, some of which are quite old.
On the northern side of the Green is a pleasant terrace of very large Victorian houses. This shot shows some of the upper rooms of this terrace, illuminated by the low afternoon sun which adds colour to the attractive cream bricks.
The contrast of the cream bricks lit by the late afternoon sun and that dramatically dark sky makes for a pleasing image. Sometimes I find Victoria architecture rather stolid and dull but these old houses are very elegant - I like the way you have highlighted the dormer windows.
Thank you all for your generous and thoughtful comments, they are really appreciated. It's amazing to thing that I've passed these houses many hundreds of times, without really looking closely at this roofline. I find it impressive how the Victorian builders made features of these windows, even though most people who pass by wouldn't really notice them.

Thank you Pete - the low sun emphasised the dark sky.
