The Empire Building, Burnley, Lancaster

Ian and I had a day trip to Burnley which has many fine buildings

Burnley had its origins in a settlement founded about 800 A.D. near to the River Brun.By 1800 it had become a flourishing market town, with the market moving fom the top of the hill, near St.Peters church, to the bottom of the hill.
During the 19th Century Burnley developed
into the world’s leading cotton-weaving town.

This, the Empire Building caught my attention.Unusually it was built by Brunley corporation in 1927 to provide shopping space, a function it retains today. It has some unusual decorations in Art Deco style.

@thresheg @seattlite @lhart @vignouse @tonydebont @bruni @bkbinthecity Thank you for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed seeing this fine building. I found it interesting that Burnley corporation was putting up buildings as the great depression was unfolding. Katharine

That is a cool building Katharine. How did they prop it up with a Subway? It is like being at home.
