Red, White and Blue

York's Illuminating York was a four day event at the end of last week, and many buildings and organisations were involved in creating an attractive and enjoyable event.

This shot shows the west front of St Michael le Belfrey Church highlighted in red white and blue.

This interesting church is often overlooked by visitors since it is immediately across the road from, and overshadowed by, the Minster.

The present church building was built between 1525 and 1536 and replaced a church that dated back to at least 1294. The church is famous for being the place where Guy Fawkes was baptised on 16 April 1570. Fawkes later became a Roman Catholic, which led to the failed 1605 Gunpowder Plot. The west front and bellcote date from 1867 and were the work of the architect George Fowler Jones.

Magnificent rainbow colours and interesting history. I used to visit York with my school when I was a child.

Very much out of your genre. A change is as good as a rest. Interesting variation, well done!

Ooh, love illuminated buildings! Funny how this one looks rather small, until you look at the size of the door...

Well, thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the popular page!

I find night photography interesting, but my camera isn't particularly suited for the task - however it was kept very busy through the four evenings of the Illuminating York event!
