Harrogate Valley Gardens were opened in the late 1880s, and were at first relatively small in extent. They have since been developed and increased in area several times, and part of the development in the 1930s was a Sun Pavillion and a series of colonnades.
This is one of the colonnades. They run along the north-western edge of the gardens and give attractive views across the gardens and along the valley.
Climbing plants of various types grow up the pillars and across the roof, giving areas of light and shade. Benches line the interior of the colonnade (not seen in this shot) and are an attractive place to have a break and enjoy the autumnal views.
Thank you all for your generous comments and fav, they are very much appreciated.
It was nice to see gardens as well maintained as the Valley Gardens are - I can already see another visit coming up in the spring to get shots of the early flowers!
