We weren't posting photos over the Christmas period a year ago, although our cameras were busy, so we missed sharing with you the serious flooding in York that started on 26th December 2015.
There were so many things happening during the floods a year ago. This collage gives a glimpse of some of the things we saw in and around the centre of the city. Many are sad, while others are heroic or humerous - from the cyclist making his way through the flood water, to the RAF Chinook helicopter dropping off equipment at the Foss Barrier, a waterlogged car, a very low bridge, road signs, fooded houses and historic buildings, and a banner hung from the upper floor of a house beside the River Ouse...."It's OK, we've still got lots of leftover turkey"
Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.
I have to say that the floods of Christmas 2015 were quite exceptional - for almost 30 years the flood defences have protected York well. Only a few unprotected areas have suffered. The defences were created in the mid 1980s following severe floods at the end of 1978 and again in 1982.
