Another steam train into York, and I was pleased to get some shots of the 'Britannia'. I've only photographed it once before, as a museum exhibit, so it was good to see it working.
It was built in Crewe locomotive works and completed in January 1951. Following the nationalisation of railways in 1948, it was the first built to a British Railways design rather than the previous company designs.
This charter service was operated by a new train operating company - Saphos Train Travel. There were relatively few passengers on the service, and even fewer photographers on the platform. Hopefully their popularity will increase. Perhaps the headboard 'The Brexit Express' deterred some people.
Nicely photographed and very pertinent for the times! We have escaped to India to escape the Brexit mess but think it will still be there when we return!
@busylady@seattlite@pyrrhula@kwind@bkbinthecity Thank you all for your comments and favs - I wasn't sure Brexit linked photos would be very popular! Judith, India seems a good option to escape the Brexit chaos. Gloria, it's no easier to understand close up, and watching Parliament debate is like watching trouble in the school playground. Ferry, we too find Brexit is dragging on. I will be glad when some decisions are made. Personally I would revoke article 50 and go back to a system that was working reasonably well rather than jumping into the great unknown.
