Well, this wasn't what was expected. A steam excursion from Norwich was supposed to be hauled by locomotive 'Union of South Africa' (see http://365project.org/fishers/365/2019-09-29 ). However, a fault prevented it from running and this 'Black 5' was the substitute, and it is seen here moving off from platform 10 at York railway station towards the railway museum.
This locomotive, no 44871, was built in 1945 at Crewe locomotive works, and worked until the official last day of steam on BR, when it was used to haul the Fifteen Guinea Special on 11th August 1968 in tandem with 44781 on the Carlisle to Manchester leg of the tour. It was withdrawn from service the following day, and went straight into preservation.
One of it's claims to fame is that in August 2010 44871 featured in an episode of the long running soap opera 'Coronation Street' where it hauled Roy and Hayley Cropper's wedding train!
Katharine remains in hospital, making slow progress. More scans and X-Rays today to check on progress. It looks like she will be in hospital until at least the middle of next week.
Fascinating to read so much train info. I have taken so much for granted over all the years of travelling by train.
Love and prayers for you both and hope Katharine gets all the care and attention needed for positive progress. XX
I like that you're able to capture the steam on these old train pictures, and share their claim to fame. I'm sorry Katherine is still unable to be home. I hope she'll soon be better.
A wonderful capture. Fav. So sorry to hear that Katherine is back in the hospital. Glad she is getting the care that she needs and will be home again soon.
Fav, of course. The Black 5 is one of my favourites, only because it was a favourite model I had on a previous N gauge layout I had. Marvellous picture.
Glad to hear that things are progressing, albeit slowly, for Katharine.
I know I have not been on 365 much lately, though you have been on my mind every day. Glad to hear that you are coping well daily. I am more worried about what this is doing to you emotionally? Seeing a loved one not feeling well does take a toll.
@ninaganci Thank you for your concern Nina, it isn't easy seeing someone close suffering. I must admit I felt a bit low earlier in the week, but two hours walking this morning, and finding Katharine in much less pain this afternoon has lifted my spirits quite a bit.
Love and prayers for you both and hope Katharine gets all the care and attention needed for positive progress. XX
Best wishes for Katharine and her recovery.
Glad to hear that things are progressing, albeit slowly, for Katharine.
Thank you all for all your comments and favs, they are very much appreciated!
