After over forty years, yesterday was the last day of regular timetabled services for the High Speed Train on the East Coast main line between Scotland, York and London. This shot shows the rear power car of the 16:32 service from York to London, where it would form the final service to Leeds.
I've travelled many thousands of miles on these trains, and I will miss them, particularly the train that still has the really comfortable 1970s designed seats.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
It was sad to see the end of these trains on East Coast services, although some still work in Scotland and the south-west of England. There will even be an occasional one passing through York on Cross Country services. They have been remarkably successful trains, with the hardest worked examples approaching 10 million miles. But life moves on, and most of my future East Coast trips will be on the new Azumas.

As an Ex technician I can understand why they have to be replaced after all those years.
