The village of Hutton le Hole lies beside a beck runing from north to south. To the east and west of the village are hills, part of a chain known as the Tabular Hills. Katharine and I went up the hill to the east, on a walk very familiar to us that would take us through the village of Spaunton to Lastingham, with a lower level walk back along the edge of the heather moorland.
This shot was taken shortly after the top of the first climb, and it looks north-west, with farmland in the foreground and heather moorland at the right of the shot.
It is always fascinating to see small changes in the landscape on a familiar walk that you haven't done for a while. Here in the foreground of the shot is a newly repaired dry stone wall. The lighter colours on some surfaces of stone where they have been reshaped to fit the reconstructed wall. This wall had been completely flattened last time I was here. It is good to see this traditional part of the landscape restored.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
Thank you Nina for asking about my mum. She is still seriously ill in hospital, and the outlook isn't too good. She is better than she was last weekend, but it isn't likely that she will get home again. But then she is 96 years old and has had a long and active life so we have a lot to be thankful for.
