Middletons Hotel in York always goes the extra mile when creating displays and activities for the annual ice trail. They displayed not only ice sculptures, but there were also other features and activities. This shot shows a small part of their display, with a version of the Mad Hatters Tea Party.
Ice sculptures of Alice at the far end of the table and the Mad Hatter at the near end were complemented by other sculptures. Along the far side of the table were chairs for visitors to sit and have photos taken as part of the scene.
In addition to the ice sculptures in this scene, there were three others around the hotel grounds.
Beautiful presentation and lovely ice sculptures. The sculptors must be amazing artists to take the time to make these sculptures which will last for only a couple of days.
Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.
It seems that hatters really did go mad, due to mercury poisoning as a result of the hat making process. The use of mercury in the hat making process didn't end until the early 1940s.
The sculptures are replaced each day. It was a bit too warm for ice sculptures. Some were in a poor state by the end of the afternoon. Hopefully next year the ice trail will move back to its traditional first weekend in February date. (Delayed this year due to Covid-19).

Thank you. The ice trail is one of my favourite events of the year in York.
