It's hard to believe but this bungalow has played a role in my life for the past 61 years, but not any longer, since my brother and I have now sold it following our mother's death last year. Today was the day the keys were handed over to the new owner.
It is a day with many mixed emotions. It brings us almost to the end of sorting out our mother's financial affairs, and it is a relief not to have the responsibility for the bungalow, but it carries with it sadness as well.
My parents, my brother and I moved into the bungalow in June 1961. It was newly built, but there was no central heating, no telephone, no garage (although that was built quite soon after the top photo was taken). Much has changed in the property over the years, but much has also remained unchanged.
It would be interesting to see what the new owners make of the place.
My wife was a child in the same house for many years. We went back years later. My wife was invited in by the present owner. My wife declined thinking she would prefer to remember it as it was.
beautiful house, wow! Overflowing with memories and laughter. Sadly, all good things come to an end. I am sure that your memories you will treasure forever. Love the structure of the building, very unique
Tend to agree with Xbm, do not visit it again, remember it as it was. The new owners will do drastic changes
I understand the sadness, going through it with my mams bungalow and then a couple of years ago my family home being demolished, I cried buckets but managed to save 20 original bricks which are now a step in our back porch and a stand for a flower tub in the front garden.
Nothing seems to have changed. I hope the new owner will keep the outside shape. It must bring so many memories to you. When my dad died (my mum died earlier), we sold the house. It was then turned into a block of flats and I almost can't even mark where it was when I happen to pass by.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
The top shot is from a collection of almost 500 photos that were mainly taken by my dad, and which I have been scanning and restoring, and they have brought back many memories, and a few mysteries and ssurprises - both my mum and dad came from large families, so it might take a while to identify some of the people in the photos, assuming they are even relatives. Old photos become more valuable as they age.
I know we had a tv when we moved there, and I remember a tv ariel was put on the roof of the garage when that was built shortly after this shot was taken, but I don't know if we had reception when we first moved in - another one of the mysteries of life!
