The large trees in Parliament Street, York, make an ideal place to display Christmas lights. Now, with lanterns added, they make a rather attractive Chinese New Year display.
More of an effort does seem to be made in York to make minority groups feel welcome. As part of the Christmas display, there was a 'Welcome' display for those of different faiths. I suppose this reflects the increasing popularity of York as a visitor centre, with over 8 million visitors a year from all over the world, and many thousands of jobs dependant on tourism.
I had planned to go into the city centre one evening to get a night shot of this display, but so far the below freezing temperatures each evening have persuaded me to stay at home and stay warm!
Love the pop of red, I initially thought of Baba Marta day on 1 March in Bulgaria where they hang red tassels or dolls on trees and take them down when they see the first stork returning for the Spring.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
At long last today was a bit warmer. The temperature differences between the south-east of England (-10C in recent days) and northern Scotland (up to +10C) have been quite remarkable, but the warmer weather is slowly moving south.

Thank you!

Sadly when I went to get photos after dark I discovered the lanterns were not illuminated.
