It doesn't seem to have been a very good year for magnolias, at least in this part of York. One of our neighbours has one that hasn't flowered at all this year, and another that I pass on the walk to the bus stop has had very few flowers. But the Homestead Park hasn't let us down, and its magnolia has produced some lovely blooms, as usual.

On reflection, the poor performance of the local magnolias might be because the two that I see regularly both had a severe pruning last year, and magnolias tend to react badly to that. Perhaps they will be more successful next year.
